Government jobs for female candidates are open in every field: office work, teaching, nursing, police, railways, banks and even the armed forces. Women sit the same exams as men, but many notifications waive the fee for women, and many states keep a share of posts for them. This page groups the best options by your qualification, shows how each one is filled and where pay starts, and points you to the state boards that run female govt jobs near your home.
Why government jobs for women are a strong choice
Parents often ask me one question: is a sarkari job safe and practical for our daughter? In most cases, yes. Here is why so many families prefer it:
- Fixed hours and paid leave: most office, teaching and bank posts have set working hours.
- Maternity and child care leave: central government rules give paid maternity leave and child care leave to women employees.
- Posting near home: state jobs, school teaching and India Post jobs usually keep you in your own district or state.
- Lower exam cost: the Staff Selection Commission does not charge any application fee from women candidates.
- Age help after hardship: in SSC exams like CHSL, widows and divorced women who have not remarried can apply up to 35 years (40 for SC and ST).
The selection itself is on merit. Nobody gets a post because she is a woman, so preparation still decides everything.

A 12th pass girl has many options. This table lists the main ones. For the full list for both boys and girls, see government jobs after 12th.

So the government jobs for 12th pass female candidates are many, and the sarkari job for 12th pass girl students is not limited to a few posts. If you like desk work, aim for CHSL or Stenographer. If you are fit and confident, police and defence are open to you too.
High salary government jobs after 12th for female students
Among 12th level jobs, these pay the most at the start:
- NDA: girls can now join the National Defence Academy. UPSC holds the exam twice a year and lists separate seats for women. After training you become an officer, and an Army officer starts at Level 10 (₹56,100 basic).
- SSC Stenographer Grade C: Level 6 (₹35,400) or Level 7 (₹44,900) basic, depending on the office.
- SSC CHSL Data Entry Operator: Level 4 or Level 5 basic.
Some girls look for high salary government jobs after 12th for female candidates in railway. The 12th level railway posts start at Level 2 or 3. Higher railway posts like Station Master need graduation, so a degree helps you grow faster.
After 12th, a professional course can also lead to a well paid sarkari job. B.Sc Nursing or GNM opens Nursing Officer posts in central hospitals. A D.El.Ed or B.Ed opens government teacher posts. These take 2 to 4 years of study but give long, stable careers.
What the work looks like day to day
An LDC or JSA in a central office handles files, letters and data entry from about 9 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening, five or six days a week. A stenographer takes dictation from an officer and prepares notes and letters, so the work is close to senior staff. A woman constable works in shifts at a police station, in women's help desks, traffic or crowd duty, and the hours can be long during festivals and elections. A nursing officer works in ward shifts, including nights. Think about which daily routine suits you and your family before you choose.
Government jobs for graduate female candidates
A degree opens the better paid posts. If you are a graduate, look at these:
| Exam | Example posts | Starting basic pay |
|---|---|---|
| SSC CGL | Assistant Section Officer, Income Tax Inspector, Auditor, Tax Assistant | Level 4 (₹25,500) to Level 7 (₹44,900) |
| Bank exams (SBI, IBPS) | Clerk, Probationary Officer | Bank scale, set in each notice |
| UPSC Civil Services | IAS, IPS, IFS and other services | Level 10 (₹56,100) |
| State PCS | Deputy Collector, DSP, other state officers | State pay scale |
| CTET and state TET | Primary and upper primary teacher | Pay set by central or state rules |
These are the high salary government jobs after graduation for female candidates. After B.Sc, you can also try science posts in research bodies and teaching. Our jobs after graduation page lists more.
Government jobs for women without exam
A few posts are filled on merit marks or interview, with no written test. Two are popular among women:
- India Post Gramin Dak Sevak: 10th pass with Maths and English, 18 to 40 years, selection on a merit list of 10th marks. The ₹100 fee is waived for all women. See India Post GDS.
- Anganwadi worker and helper: women only, run by the state women and child development department. Rules, age and pay differ by state. See Anganwadi worker.
Without an exam, competition shifts to marks, so seats fill fast. Read govt jobs without exam for the full list.

Free government courses for ladies
If you need a skill before a job, start with low cost government training:
- Government ITIs: one and two year trades like sewing technology, computer operator, electronics and stenography. Many states charge girls very little. See ITI courses.
- National Skill Training Institutes for women: run by the Directorate General of Training for craft and instructor training.
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana: short skill courses at listed training centres, free for the trainee.
- Nursing and teacher training: government colleges charge much less than private ones for ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nursing and D.El.Ed.
Fees, seats and rules change by state. Ask at your nearest government ITI or district skill office.
How girls can prepare and get selected
- Pick two or three exams with the same syllabus. CHSL, Selection Posts and NTPC overlap a lot.
- Study 3 to 4 hours daily for 8 to 12 months. This is what I see in most girls who clear these exams.
- For police and defence, start fitness early. Running and the physical test need months of practice.
- Use your fee waiver. Since SSC charges nothing from women, apply to every exam you qualify for.
- Keep documents ready: certificates, category certificate and photo ID in the format the notice asks for.
