BBA is one of the most popular choices after 12th for students who want a business or management career without the heavy accounting of BCom or the maths of engineering. It suits students from any stream: commerce, arts or science.

What is BBA course and its full form

The BBA course full form is Bachelor of Business Administration. It is an undergraduate degree that teaches how organisations work: marketing, finance, human resources, operations, and the basics of law and economics behind them. Think of it as a first step toward a management role, and the most natural base for an MBA later.

In simple words, if a student asks me "BBA course kya hota hai", I say: it is a degree that trains you to understand a business from the inside, and to work in sales, marketing, finance, HR or operations.

Maths in 12th is not compulsory at most colleges, though some ask for it. Arts students do well in BBA if their English and reasoning are good.

BBA vs BMS vs BBM

Students often get confused by these three names. They are close cousins.

  • BMS course: the BMS course full form is Bachelor of Management Studies. Some universities, especially in Mumbai and Delhi, run BMS instead of BBA. BMS course details are similar to BBA, sometimes with a little more maths and economics. BMS careers and BMS jobs are the same as BBA careers. Note: in some medical contexts "BMS" means a different degree, so check the full name before you apply.
  • BBM course: Bachelor of Business Management, a name used by several South Indian universities. BBM course details closely match BBA.
  • Types of BBA courses: general BBA, and specialised versions like BBA in finance, marketing, international business, hospital management, aviation, retail, logistics and computer applications.

For jobs, BBA, BMS and BBM are treated the same. Choose by college quality, not by the name.

BBA course subjects list by year

How many subjects in BBA course? Usually 5 to 7 per semester, so roughly 35 to 40 papers over 3 years, plus projects. The exact list varies by university. A typical pattern looks like this:

  • First year: principles of management, business communication, financial accounting, micro economics, business mathematics and statistics, computer applications, environmental studies.
  • Second year: marketing management, human resource management, cost and management accounting, organisational behaviour, business law, macro economics, research methods.
  • Third year: financial management, operations management, entrepreneurship, strategic management, income tax basics, specialisation electives (finance, marketing, HR, international business), internship and project.

What are the subjects in BBA course that students find hardest? Usually accounting and statistics. Start practising them from the first semester and they become easy.

BBA entrance exam and questions asked

Many private colleges admit on 12th marks. For central universities and the better state and government colleges, you need an entrance score.

  • CUET UG: by NTA, used by central universities and many others for BBA and BMS.
  • IPMAT: conducted by IIM Indore for its 5 year Integrated Programme in Management. IIM Rohtak runs its own IPMAT. This is the main IIM entrance exam for BBA-level study.
  • JIPMAT: by NTA, for the integrated management programme at some newer IIMs.
  • University and state tests: some universities and states hold their own management aptitude tests.

What type of questions are asked in BBA entrance exam? Most tests have four parts:

SectionWhat it checksSample topics
Quantitative aptitudeClass 10 level maths speedPercentages, ratios, profit and loss, averages, time and work
Logical reasoningThinking and patternsSeries, coding, seating, blood relations, puzzles
EnglishReading and grammarComprehension, vocabulary, sentence correction
General awarenessCurrent affairs and businessEconomy, companies in the news, static GK

IPMAT focuses on quantitative ability (including short-answer questions) and verbal ability, and is tougher than most BBA tests. The BBA entrance exam syllabus for each test is in its official information bulletin. Two to four months of steady practice is enough for most college-level tests. See more on entrance exams after 12th.

BBA course fees: government vs private

BBA course fees range widely. Government colleges cost much less than private ones.

  • Government and central university colleges: often ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 a year.
  • Private colleges and universities: commonly ₹60,000 to ₹3 lakh or more a year.
  • Online BBA course fees and distance BBA (correspondence course) fees are usually the lowest, but you miss campus placements and peer learning.

Before choosing an online BBA course, check that the university is approved by UGC for online degrees. BMS course fees follow similar ranges.
