Bihar Police constable job profile
A Bihar Police sipahi works at police stations, outposts, district police lines and battalions of the Bihar Special Armed Police (earlier called Bihar Military Police). Daily work includes patrolling, guarding the thana and lock-up, traffic duty, escort of prisoners, election and festival duty, raids with officers and help in investigation. Life can be hard: long shifts, transfers inside the state and duty during floods or law and order situations. But it is a permanent state government post with regular increments, leave, medical support and a pension under NPS.
CSBC also recruits for related posts such as constable in the prohibition (madya nishedh) department, and driver constable in some cycles. Each comes with its own advertisement.
Bihar Police salary per month and pay structure
Recent CSBC constable advertisements list the post at Level 3 of the pay matrix, ₹21,700 to ₹69,100. Here is how the Bihar Police constable salary is built up each month:
- Basic pay: ₹21,700 in year one. It grows by about 3 percent with each annual increment.
- DA: the Bihar government announces its rate as a percentage of basic, normally following the Centre's revisions.
- HRA: depends on where you are posted, as per Bihar government rules. Patna gets a higher rate than a small district. Staff in police lines barracks do not draw it.
- Other allowances: some police specific allowances as notified by the state.
- Deductions: NPS share from basic plus DA, group insurance and income tax if it applies.
So "Bihar Police ka salary kitna hai?" Put simply, the Bihar Police constable salary per month is: basic ₹21,700 plus DA plus HRA. The salary box near the top of the page shows an estimate from the Level 3 basic using the central DA and city slabs. Bihar's allowances follow state rules, so the real payslip can differ a little. Bihar Police constable exam and selection process
The selection runs in three main steps:
- Written exam: 100 objective questions, 100 marks, 2 hours, on OMR. It is only qualifying: you need at least 30 percent marks. Written marks are not added to the final merit. Candidates are called for PET at about five times the vacancies in each category.
- Physical Standard Test and Physical Efficiency Test: height and chest are checked first, and then the PET is held for 100 marks. The final merit list is prepared on PET marks.
- Document verification and medical: for those who come in merit.
This is the big difference from many other states. In the Bihar Police constable exam, the written test only opens the door, and your running, shot put and high jump decide the rank.
PET marks and standards
| Event | Marks | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|---|
| Running | 50 | 1.6 km; full marks under 5 minutes, out after 6 minutes | 1 km; full marks under 4 minutes, out after 5 minutes |
| Shot put | 25 | 16 lb; full marks above 20 ft, out below 16 ft | 12 lb; full marks above 16 ft, out below 12 ft |
| High jump | 25 | Minimum 4 ft; full marks at 5 ft | Minimum 3 ft; full marks at 4 ft |
You must clear the minimum in each event separately. Marks between the minimum and the top band are given in slabs, as shown in the advertisement. If two candidates have equal PET marks, the older one ranks higher. Read that table carefully and train to the full marks level, not just the pass mark.
Bihar Police exam syllabus
The written paper is of class 12 standard. The subjects are:
- Hindi and English (grammar, vocabulary, comprehension)
- Mathematics (arithmetic up to class 10 level)
- Science (physics, chemistry, biology basics)
- Social Science (history, geography, polity, economy)
- General Studies and current affairs, including Bihar specific GK
Since you only need 30 percent, most serious students clear it with one to two months of revision of NCERT class 9 and 10 books and some practice papers. Spend the rest of your energy on the ground.
Training and probation
After final selection, constables are sent for basic training at Bihar Police training centres. Training includes drill, weapon handling, law, field craft, first aid and fitness. Pay starts from the day you join, so the Bihar Police salary in training is the regular Level 3 basic with allowances. After training you are posted to a district or a Bihar Special Armed Police battalion.
Promotion and growth
From constable you can rise to havaldar, ASI, Sub-Inspector and Inspector through departmental promotion. Graduates can also sit for the BPSSC Sub-Inspector exam directly and jump ranks. Some constables keep trying central jobs like SSC GD constable, CRPF or BSF, which use a similar physical test.
How to prepare and official website
- Ground first: run four to five days a week, practise shot put and high jump with a coach or senior if possible. Three to four months of steady training makes a big difference.
- Written: revise basics and solve old CSBC papers to be safely above 30 percent.
- Documents: keep your intermediate marksheet, caste certificate (Bihar), residence certificate and non-creamy layer certificate ready and valid.
"Bihar Police ka exam kab hoga?" Only CSBC can answer that. All advertisements, admit cards, PET schedules and results come on the CSBC website, csbc.bihar.gov.in. Dates and seats change every cycle, so check it directly. To compare with other states, read UP Police constable, Delhi Police constable and the all-India police constable salary guide.
