If you want high salary courses after 12th science, your first question is simple: did you study PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Maths), PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or PCMB? Your subject group decides which career options in science are open to you. PCM opens engineering, architecture, defence officer entry, pilot training and data careers. PCB opens doctor, dental, nursing, pharmacy and allied health careers. Many courses, like BSc, BCA and research programmes, accept both. This page lists the main options with eligibility, how you get in, course length and a fair idea of starting pay, and links each option to its own detailed guide.
One honest point before the lists. A high salary does not come from the course name alone. It comes from the college you get, the skills you build and the first job you land. A sincere student from a government college often does better than an average student from a costly private one. So read the "how you get in" column carefully. Most good seats come through an entrance exam.
High salary courses after 12th science: the quick picture
Here is the short answer that most parents ask me for. These are the courses that, over a career, most often lead to strong pay:

- BTech or BE, especially computer science and electronics (PCM): the biggest single route to well paid private jobs. See BTech courses.
- Commercial pilot training (PCM): very high pay later, but very high training cost and limited openings. See commercial pilot.
- Defence officer through NDA (PCM for Navy and Air Force): a paid academy training and an officer job. See NDA.
- Data science, AI and software (mainly PCM, through BTech, BCA or BSc): see data scientist and software engineer.
- Architecture (BArch), merchant navy and research science through IISER or NISER for students who like a specific field.

High salary courses after 12th science for girls
Every course on this page is open to girls. Families sometimes ask which options suit daughters, so here is a practical view. Girls are doing very well in MBBS, BDS, nursing, pharmacy, software, data analysis and architecture. NDA now admits women cadets too. The best career options after 12th PCM for girls are the same as for boys: computer science, electronics, data and design. The difference is usually not the course but family support for studying away from home.
If moving to another city is hard, look at government colleges in your own state, BSc and BCA at a local university, and nursing or pharmacy colleges in the district. Later, government exams open many stable jobs. See govt jobs for women.
Short and diploma courses after 12th science
Not everyone can spend 4 or 5 years in college. Some students need to start earning early. These options are shorter:
- 1 year diploma courses after 12th in science: DMLT (some states run it as 2 years), X-ray and ECG technician, operation theatre assistant, computer hardware and networking.
- DPharm: 2 years, lets you work as a registered pharmacist.
- Polytechnic diploma with lateral entry: some states allow 12th science students to enter the second year of a diploma. Later you can join BTech in the second year.
- ITI trades: electrician, fitter and other trades. See ITI courses.
Check that the institute is approved by the right body (AICTE for technical, nursing and pharmacy councils for health). An unapproved diploma can make you ineligible for government jobs.
Best career options after 12th science: how to choose
When students sit with me, I ask four questions:
- Which subject do you actually enjoy? If Maths feels heavy, a computer science degree will be a struggle. If Biology excites you, do not force engineering.
- What can your family afford? Government colleges cost much less than private ones. A good rank in JEE Main or NEET UG saves lakhs.
- How long can you study before earning? MBBS plus postgraduation can take 9 to 10 years. A BTech or BSc takes 3 to 4.
- Do you want a sarkari job? Many science graduates later clear SSC, banking, railway or state exams. See govt jobs after 12th and jobs after BSc.

Questions students ask
Which is the best course after 12th science for a high salary?
For PCM students, BTech in computer science or electronics from a good college is the most common route to high pay. For PCB students, MBBS leads to strong long term earnings. Pilot training and defence officer entry through NDA also pay well, but each has strict eligibility. The college you get matters as much as the course.
What are the career options after 12th PCM without JEE?
You can do BSc, BCA, BArch through NATA, or join NDA through UPSC. Many state and private universities admit students to BTech through their own tests or 12th marks. Merchant navy and pilot training have their own admission process. Diploma and data courses are also open.
Can a PCB student do engineering or computer courses?
Biotechnology and some other branches accept PCB students at certain colleges. For JEE Main based BE or BTech admission, Physics and Maths are compulsory. A PCB student can still do BCA at colleges that do not demand Maths, or BSc in computer related subjects where allowed. Check each college's eligibility first.
Which courses after 12th science are good for girls?
MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BPharm, BTech in computer science, BCA, architecture and data science are all strong choices. NDA also takes women cadets now. Choose by interest and ability, not by gender. Government colleges near home are a good option if travel is a concern.
Is BSc a good option after 12th science?
Yes, if you choose the subject well and plan the next step. BSc leads to MSc, teaching after BEd, research, and many government exams that need a graduate degree. BSc in computer science, statistics or biotechnology also opens private jobs. It costs much less than professional degrees in government colleges.
Which degree course is best for IAS after 12th science?
Any graduate degree makes you eligible for the UPSC Civil Services exam. Pick a subject you can score well in and enjoy, because you can choose it as your optional paper later. Many science students do BSc or BTech and then prepare. Read our guide on becoming an IAS officer for details.
